One teenage youth was found dead only a few days following being wrongly blamed of stealing the cremated remains of a deceased baby during a burglary, a coroner's inquiry has heard.

Tragic Finding

Kai Lloyd's parents discovered his remains in his room at his Connah's Quay residence on November 19th, 2021.

False Allegations Begin

The inquest learned how his mother got a message on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her offspring. The communication stated: "Inform him thanks for burgling my apartment."

In a testimony read to the proceedings, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the media, asserting her baby's ashes had been taken in a burglary - a allegation which was untrue.

Police Inquiry

An investigation report from police later concluded the alleged break-in victim had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the property was never stolen in the first place".

Media reports about the supposed taken ashes generated social media comments, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his parent said individuals "knew it was him".

The "online posts were really upsetting", she stated.

Emotional Wellbeing Impact

She explained that Kai had been identified with mild ADHD, and as part of that condition, other peoples' opinions really were important to him.

"It would have affected him severely," she commented, "especially when this was untrue".

Kai was arrested at his residence, but nothing was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later freed under investigation.

Authorities said they would be in touch, the inquest learned, but had not contacted the relatives by the time of his passing.

Isolation and Worry

His mother said Kai "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could seem like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the alleged burglary, she said her child informed her he had entered the house because the resident who lived there had said he could use the bathroom anytime he needed, but refuted removing anything.

Online Harassment

In a joint statement between her and her husband, the mother said her son was being bullied digitally after the accusations.

The proceedings learned that a young adult urged Kai to end his life.

She had no worries on the night before he died, explaining how she had heard him "laughing and joking".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, affectionate" young man, and said her "relatives is completely shattered".

He had been "obviously hiding his concerns", she stated, adding that he could not stand to have anyone "think bad of him".

School Reaction

The hearing heard from educational personnel at Connah's Quay High School.

On November 8th, she "heard some students discussing that Kai had been arrested and that was the first I heard".

"He told me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.

After the conversation, the educator said she rang Kai's family telephone and provided a message saying she had spoken to Kai about the allegations.

The proceedings heard his parents said they never got that message.

Official Finding

Senior coroner informed the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what enhancements had been made to handling suspects with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of future fatalities report.

Delivering a narrative finding, he said: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old child.

"Probably untruths were afterwards exaggerated and exaggerated through the platform of social media.

"During 11 November, he was questioned by the police and after his interview he was freed while investigations proceeded."

The official determined: "Exists no evidence that the acts or omissions of any agency caused or contributed to his passing and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted action it is impossible to determine his intent."
