Whenever a major awards ceremony nears, one notices a clamor for introducing fresh award types to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and satisfy the passions of fans who have specialized interests.
Another commentator has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would rule. Equally deserving are board games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance for pushing forward because like all blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request remains most pressing and important of all. The demand is this: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and it will always start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. There’s a reason film award organizations don’t do it. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify a single creative category.
To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Prominent interactive entertainment events currently feature classifications covering Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these award types actually cover many game types, allowing placement for numerous titles.
Not so for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Consider three of recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: building puzzles of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Which classification works among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.
Recognition Challenges
Numerous examples exist outstanding logic titles launched regularly that have no home during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit award groups including Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested Indie races.
- An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition completely during that awards season
- Another creative title received no nominations during that ceremony
- Popular arranging title got ignored recently
- Only a few brain-teasers barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications
Value of Brain-Teasers
Commonly they're modest productions, but the art of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.
The legendary block-stacking game rivals well-known building titles for the title of most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.
The Solution and Justification
Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. You could fill five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.
To emphasize again, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary interactive creation, producing among essential manifestations of gaming itself. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait 35 years.
