Labuschagne Dropped from Australia's One-Day International Lineup Against India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the three-game ODI series facing India, as in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw getting a shock selection.

Recent Form Lead to Exclusion

The right-hander was left out from the ODI squad after being dismissed for one in both of his innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. He has a highest score of forty-seven in his last 10 ODI innings.

The batsman has played 68 one-day internationals and scored 1,871 runs at an batting average of 34.64, but will now work towards a Test recall in time for the Ashes starting in Perth on 21 November.

Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Updates

Recent performances suggest of a return to form with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw made a century for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

Renshaw is in line to make his white-ball international debut in the forthcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

Renshaw has played 14 Tests with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a red-ball recall as Australia search for a fix to their opening batting issues.

Bowling Returns and Fitness Updates

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after taking a break since performing well for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after being concussed in the lead up to Australia’s last 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins is still unavailable as he works to regain fitness from a spinal issue in time to captain Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Team Announcement Strategy and Schedule

Australia have named a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-game T20 series due to a wrist problem suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will lead both the ODI and T20 teams after hitting a ton in the final game against New Zealand to secure a series clean sweep last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an crucial phase in the preparation for the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India commences on 19 October in Perth, before the opponents play five T20s from 29 October.
